Tilapia Ceviche (with dog-safe ingredients)

When I saw white fish as one of the proteins that I could make my dog’s food from, I just knew that I had to try my hand at a dog-safe ceviche, and I was not disappointed. It’s probably for the best that Waffles was not a fan for a couple reasons. Firstly, I ate the whole batch myself. And second, the tilapia was the only ingredient I used from Waffles’ vet-balanced recipe. This worked out great because I could let her fish cook while I prepared my ceviche, and then I put both in the refrigerator for a couple hours, and by the time we were ready for dinner, I had a perfectly marinated ceviche, and Waffles had a delicious fish fillet that was completely cooled. Let’s talk about how to make this because I definitely swapped a couple ingredients to fit the needs of my dog-safe kitchen while keeping my flavors balanced.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Frozen Tilapia Fillet

  • 1 Sliced Lemon

  • 2-5 Small Radishes

  • 3-5 Sweet Peppers of Various Colors

  • 1 bunch Cilantro

  • 1/4 Large Diced Carrot

  • 1/4 cup Chopped Bean Sprouts

  • 1 Diced Avocado

  • 1 Diced Peach

  • 1/8 cup Lime Juice

  • 1/2-1 cup Lemon Juice

Directions:

  1. Place the fish at the base of a glass dish

  2. Cover with sliced lemons

  3. Fill the dish with radishes, peppers, cilantro, carrots, and bean sprouts

  4. Fill the dish with citrus juice to completely cover the fish

  5. Allow to marinade for 2 hours
